“Then David ran and stood over the Philistine (Goliath) and took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.” (1 Samuel 17:51)

There are many things in the world today that can cause us to be fearful. Pain, suffering, sickness, loss, financial troubles, relationship problems, fear of being unsuccessful, and the list could go on forever. But is being fearful something that the Bible teaches, or is it a stumbling block created to take your eyes off of Christ?

To be fair, the Bible does teach fear. However, it’s a very specific fear, namely the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 1:7, Matthew 10:28, Psalm 33:8, Luke 1:50, just to name a few…). But what does it say about other types of fear?

The Bible says that if we are in Christ, we shouldn’t worry about anything. Please take that literally! Instead, we should be asking the Lord for help in our times of need (Philippians 4:6-7, Psalm 94:19).

The Word also makes it clear that if our fears are rooted in what others will think of us, or do to us, that we are focusing on and fearing the wrong thing (Matthew 10:28).

When we’re in trouble, we should always put our trust in the Lord, for He is with us and is our strength in times of need (Isaiah 41:10)!
